Sport NB CEO Announcement

April 30, 2024 – Fredericton, NB – Sport New Brunswick is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl MacDonald as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). MacDonald’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Sport New Brunswick as we work to build a stronger, valued sport system that increases participation, supports athletes, and assists those responsible for developing and delivering sport programs.

“Cheryl brings a wealth of experience and a variety of perspectives that are going to be incredibly beneficial to the work that Sport NB is doing to enhance and improve the system within New Brunswick. She is a perfect fit for the organization as we continue to deliver on the opportunities and recommendations detailed in the Envisioning Sport Report, and Cheryl’s hiring is a big milestone in that process,” said Meaghan Donahue Wies, President of Sport NB.

MacDonald has a proven track record of leadership, strategic planning, and relationship building in her previous roles within the sports sector. She comes to us most recently as Director of the Scott McCain and Leslie McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health at Saint Mary’s University, and has valuable experience on both the administrative and academic sides of sport management. As the new CEO of Sport New Brunswick, she will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations, developing partnerships, and driving initiatives to promote sports participation throughout the province.
