LAUNCHING THE ENVISIONING SPORT PROJECT
IN NEW BRUNSWICK (2021-22)

Sport New Brunswick is collaborating with the Sport and Recreation Branch to spearhead a sector-led process over the next twelve months to strengthen and grow the sport system in New Brunswick. The work will envision a system that ensures its components, including sport governing bodies and government partners, become stronger, more coordinated, and streamlined voices for sport at all levels.

Sport in New Brunswick in experiencing a unique period in history. We must navigate the challenges of the current global pandemic while delivering a sport system that offers New Brunswickers opportunities to stay active and participate in sport.

As sport “returns to play”, we are in uncharted waters. There is a sense of urgency for change among many concerned about our sport system and the pressures it faces.

Important past work exists to learn from and build on, including A Sport Plan for NB (2008) and New Brunswick’s Recreation and Sport Policy Framework (2017).

This project will be guided by the expectations of a future sport system that:

  • Has a unified, collaborative, streamlined approach to sport across the province.
  • Has effective and efficient use of resources, including, but not limited to, operations.
  • Positions system partners to successfully play their roles and deliver on respective responsibilities.
  • Takes targeted and coordinated action through strong relationships and partnerships.
  • Respects equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ensures responsiveness, accountable, affordability, sustainability, and evidence-based decisions.
  • Captures and understands a made-in- New Brunswick approach to developing and delivering sport

Creating and shaping a renewed preferred future for our New Brunswick sport system will require thinking creatively, learning from others, involving stakeholders, and embracing new ideas and change.

The Project Consulting Team of NEM & Associates will manage the project, develop backgrounders and scans, work with a small Guiding Team having extensive knowledge of the provincial sport system and experience in systems thinking and change, conduct comprehensive stakeholder engagement, develop transition and implementation plans as well as a final report and recommendations.

The Guiding Team – Call for Nominations is attached. You are invited to share the call for Guiding Team members with your networks. The work of the Guiding Team will be informed by valuable input from individuals and organizations participating in several engagement opportunities throughout the Envisioning Sport Project.
